  1. What is Celcom Broadband’s Coverage MAP tool all about?
It’s a tool that enables users to check the availability of Celcom Broadband service nationwide. (inclusive Sabah & Sarawak). This will include coverage plots for GPRS, 3G and HSDPA services.
 
 
  2. How can I access this service?
For now, the tool can be access via the Celcom Broadband Website at www.celcom.com.my/broadband.
Future plans to make this service available via SMS, USSD and WAP are also be executed.
 
 
  3. Do I need to subscribe to the service in order to use it?
No, the service is provided free of charge to all users and it’s accessible by all at www.celcom.com.my/broadband.
 
 
  4. Do I need to install any special software in order to use the service?
No special software is needed to run this tool. To access the service, user needs a standard web browser.
 
 
  5. What do the words “GPRS, 3G, and HSDPA” means in the map?
These are basically the mobile broadband technologies. General Packet Radio Systems (GPRS) specifies Internet speeds of up to 48 kbps. Third Generation networks (3G) specifies speeds of up to 384 kbps while High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) specifies Internet speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. Celcom’s Broadband Advance package leverages on HSDPA technology while the Broadband Basic leverages on 3G technology. If 3G or HSDPA is not available, users can still access the Internet at GPRS speeds automatically. This however requires proper configuration on the modem.
 
 
  6. Is the info shown in the map accurate?
Celcom does not guarantee 100% accuracy of the MAP since this is based on mathematical analysis and prediction. Service availability for areas in the fringe of coverage could vary. There are a few other reasons that might compromise the accuracy of the Map that is addressed by question no. 19 and 20.
 
 
  7. Can I request for refund if I subscribe to the service based on information on the MAP, however the service is not available at my area?
For our selected packages, customers are entitled for the 7 days money back guarantee option, in the event you are not happy with Celcom Broadband service or coverage and in your area, you can terminate the service within 7 days from subscription and get full refund of the package value.
 
 
  8. How often are the maps updated?
The MAPS are updated every quarter.
 
 
  9. What can I do if my address is not found in the search result?
If the address not found, please recheck the street name or area name or try searching for a higher level of area and zoom in using the graphical MAP to your area.
 
 
  10. If Celcom Broadband service is not available in my area, what can I do?
You can submit your interest for our service via one of the function in the MAP, please input correct information as this will be used to contact you once the service is available at your desired location.
 
 
  11. How long from the time I submit interest for Celcom Broadband service will I get feedback?
We will get in touch with customers once the service becomes available at their desired location. However at present time, there is no predefined SLA for Celcom to get in touch with customers.
 
 
  12. Will Celcom get in touch with me once the service is available at my area?
We will get in touch with customers either via SMS, Phone Call or Email, as long as the information provided in the “Submit Interest” section in the MAP is correct.
 
 
  13. Can I use abbreviation to do search on address?
Yes, you can. The most common abbreviation as listed below, can be used in the search.

  14. Can I use acronyms like KLCC, MPSJ to do a search?
Yes, however not all acronyms are in recognizable in our database.
 
 
  15. In the coverage MAP, my area is shown as covered with broadband service; however I can’t use the service at my area.
Celcom does not guarantee 100% accuracy of the MAP since this is based on mathematical analysis and prediction. Areas in the fringe of coverage might not get broadband service due to weak signal strength.
 
 
  16. I subscribed to broadband service based on the coverage info shown in the MAP. When I access the service at my area, I can get connected but my speed is very slow.
For cases of slow connection, it could be due to the signal strength at the location is weak or the network is facing congestion at that point of time. For such cases, a trouble ticket needs to be raised.
 
 
  17. From the MAP, can I know the signal strength at my area?
No, currently the MAP doesn’t show signal strength.
 
 
  18. Can I access the MAP by using any other internet service provider?
Yes you can. The MAP can be accessed from any internet connection.
 
 
  19. What are some of the main reasons that the actual results of the coverage differs from the info given in the website?
The main reasons why the actual results differs from the website is because the website is based on mathematical prediction. The common contributing factors are:
  • Presence of new building or tree which are blocking the mobile signal.
  • Low in building coverage due to materials used to construct the building.
  • Customer’s location is at fringe of service coverage.
 
 
 

20. I stay in high rise building, would the coverage differ if I stay at higher levels even tough the MAP shows I have coverage in my area?
Yes, though the MAP shows your area is covered with broadband service, however similar to all other mobile service providers for buildings without indoor base station, the service will degrade as you move higher.

 
 
  21. Can I republish the MAP on my own website?
No, the Celcom Broadband Service Coverage MAP is copyrighted to Celcom and the Base Map is copyrighted to MapIT MSC SB. The MAPs cannot be used for any other purpose without written approval from Celcom and MAPIT MSC SB.
 
 
  22. Can I check the availability of the voice service using this MAP?
No, the MAP contains info on availability of Celcom Broadband service only.
